The Voice of Baltimore: Health Care Coverage

Observation Baltimore conducted independent research, surveying 794 Baltimore Metropolitan Area residents, asking their opinion of health care coverage in the United States. (97%) of those surveyed report having health care coverage from 2016. Respondents with coverage were asked to rate how satisfied they were with their current plan on a scale of 10-1 (10 being extremely satisfied and 1 being extremely dissatisfied). (81%) rated their level of satisfaction as a 6 or higher.  The majority of respondents have private health insurance coverage; (54%) have private insurance that an employer contributes to, (33%) have private insurance that they personally contribute to. (29%) of respondents are federal, state, county, city or local government employees. Learn more about what we found, below.

What do Baltimorians think about their health care coverage?

 

Respondents were asked “if you could change ONE thing about our health care system, what would that be?” The most popular responses included; reduced cost, more services including dental and vision, and FREE government funded health care. Respondents identified deductibles (33%), services not covered by insurance such as vision and dental (31%) and co-pays (11%) as the most burdensome costs for consumers who have health insurance coverage.  The majority, (58%), of those surveyed say that they have either delayed or skipped getting needed care due to associated costs.  

Consumers are not at a loss for words when asked their opinion on quality of health care. We are able to use this to our advantage while recruiting health care related studies.
