Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone, and the holiday shopping season is now in full swing, both at the store and online. Consumers are buying new video game consoles for family members, new smartphones for loved ones, and maybe something for themselves too, but not before doing plenty of research. Researching before you buy is a great way to determine which product offers the best features, the best value, or the best accessories. Before you click “add to cart” online, you’ve probably done plenty of review reading and spec comparisons.
Much like you may research products before you buy them, companies do research before they sell products. They do plenty of research regarding the products themselves, but they also do research to learn people’s opinions. What do you want in a smartphone? What are your expectations for battery life? Where would you be using your phone? These are just a few of the questions that companies want to know the answers to, so they can design a phone that appeals to their target market. And how do they get these answers? One of the main methods is qualitative market research such as focus groups and in-depth-interviews, also known as IDIs. You can read about these two methods more in-depth here and here , but the basic concept is that companies ask you market research questions, and then you get paid for simply giving your opinion! What better way to make some extra cash for the holidays?
